The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien // Review
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit.
In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose. -From Goodreads

My Thoughts: I am a HUGE LotR fan, so of course I loved this book! This was actually my 2nd time reading this (the last time I finished reading it was summer 2014). Since that summer, I have read The Silmarillion and The Children of Húrin (also by Tolkien), and it gave me a better appreciation of the historical part of Middle-earth! The 1st time I read it, I was totally lost and I thought the backstory of some parts were a real dread to get through, but this time around, since I knew the history of it, I would react like this when a character/place was mentioned:
Writing Style: I will admit that the writing style is kind of hard to get into at first (but it is a classic so *shrugs*). But the more you read it, the easier it gets. 🙂
Story Line: *If you really think about it, the whole world coming to an end all because of an evil eye wanting a piece of jewelry is really dumb, but shhh!*
Characters: Okay, I will have to do this with a list of some main characters
Frodo: I know pretty much everyone loves him, but not me. I thought it was just the movie Frodo that’s bad, but no, it’s also book Frodo who annoys me just as much. He complains way too much…
Samwise: He is definitely one of my favorites! His loyalty and stout heart makes him totally love-able! ❤
Gandalf: Just Gandalf…’nuff said.
Aragorn: I love how he is usually level-headed and tends to think things through instead of making rash decisions (except in Moria, but shh!). Even though he’s a ranger, he still has the mind of a king.
Legolas & Gimli: Okay, Legolas is a total show-off and the best part is that he doesn’t even realize it! Even though Gimli is short-tempered (pun intended) I can totally see to why he feels the need to do so. It’s hilarious when he gets all workd up!!
Merry & Pippin: I love how Merry is always trying to be mature and serious, and then Pippin decides to come along. When they are together, it is the best thing ever! Pippin is definitely one of my favorites!
Boromir: I know he can be a big jerk like 98% of the time, but I have to cut him a little slack. I mean the ring can be pretty hard to resist for Men. But, I know that deep down, he really does care for his people. 🙂
Favorite Part: It’s pretty tough to choose, but I think my favorite part was when they were in Moria, and stuff happened down there…
Cons: I wish it had some more dialogue, because sometimes the narrating in some parts seemed like forever.
My Rating: 5 Stars *****
Conclusion: If you haven’t read Lord of the Rings yet, you NEED to! It is definitely a classic that will always be in my favorites.
I hope you enjoyed this review! Later, darlings! ❤
